Pet Articles

Sometimes the most valuable friend that we can have is one of our pets. When we travel or take part in many different types of activities a pet can be a great companion. They are loyal and ask for so little in return.

There are some considerations  that need to be taken when you are planning to take your pet with you, just the same as you would for a child with special needs.

First off you need to make sure that your pet is up to the task. Just because you go to the gym and are in good physical shape doesn't mean that your pet, who may just be sitting around the house or locked up in an apartment, can make the adjustment to hiking 20 miles a day over rugged terrain. They need to be conditioned and you may even want to consider a physical examine.
One unfortunate item to think about is that it may have taken years to bond to the extent that you have with your pet, but unfortunately many of them age much more rapidly than we do. So just because you feel young enough to take on a challenge the same may not apply to all pets. We all know that dogs  age 7 times as rapidly as us but how many know that one of our years is like 3 years to a horse. That's right, a 20 year horse is the equivalent of 60 of our years. Now that is not to say that a 60 year old person can't participate in most any activities, but they will have more difficulty than a 20 year old unless they have kept physically fit. How many 60 year olds do we know that want to have a saddle strapped on them and then some overweight joker climbs up on their back and says yee haw. Sure a 20 year old horse can still travel the trail but they need to have had regular exercising.
