See the Photos link in the Cayman article below.

We are especially looking for people who were or are concerned about people in Granada, Jamaica, Cayman, Cuba, USA gulf coast and even inland USA

Ivan  the "sixth-strongest hurricane in recorded history in the Atlantic Basin," according to the Weather Channel, had a devastating effect on Grenada; damaging 90% of the homes and killing scores of people. Many home were totally flattened, including the home of the Prime Minister Keith Mitchell. The prison was destroyed, releasing all the inmates. In the aftermath of the storm, looters open ravaged what was left of peoples shattered lives. This once beautiful island known for it's pleasant environment and an international source of nutmeg now needs all the help they can get.

Surprisingly Jamaica either came through this catastrophe relatively unscathed, or at least very little has been in the news about it. Ivan passed south of Kinston by 50 miles, sparing them the worst of it's winds. Being as large as it is and having some very high mountains, there were several areas that came through with little more more  than tropical storm effects. However the entire southern shore was exposed to hurricane force wind that damaged many home and took the lives of a relatively few people. It could have been much worse.

Cayman being a very wealthy Island Nation and having experienced other such storms (1932) thought that they were well prepared as the building codes are strict and there are no shanty towns. But the force of Ivan was so great that no amount of preparation could defer the damage that was thrown against tiny jewel in the Caribbean. Between 70 to 80 percent of the homes were so badly damaged that most were not immediately able to be occupied. For those that had roof they are grateful, but that is it. There are no or at least very limited utilities. Those that can are leaving until some sense of normalcy is restored. The process of rebuilding is so monumental that determining where to start and who gets it first is number one. For photos of the devastation you can go  Here and Here.

Because of the nature of the government in Cuba we have very limited information on just how bad thing there were but apparently there was no loss of life. A small miracle that was accomplished by the evacuation of the effected region.

The USA gulf coast is perhaps one of the most heavily covered reporting on this storm. We know that at least 23 lives were lost and damage is in the billions.  Living on or near the coast is about as good as it get until it gets bad than it can be catastrophic. Inland as far away as Tennessee were deluged with rain brought in by the moisture lade tropical air, causing flooding.
