The Unicorn (Irish Rovers)

D                      A7
A long time ago when the earth was green
                                      D
There were more kinds of animals than you've ever seen
           D7                        G
And they'd run around free while the world was being born,
        D                        A7 D
And the loveliest of all was the unicorn. There were . . .

<chorus>:
	D                    A7                                        D
Green alligators and long-necked geese, humpty-back camels and chimpanzees.
D                 D7            G
Cats and rats and elephants but sure as you're born,

     D                        A7 D
The loveliest of all was the unicorn.
        D                             A7
But the Lord seen some sinnin' and it caused him pain
                                D
He says, "Stand back, I'm gonna make it rain.
   D7                      G
So hey, Brother Noah, I'll tell you what to do,
       D          A7       D
Go and build me a floating zoo. And take my . . .

<chorus>
	 D                   A7 D
Don't you forget my unicorns."
    D                      A7
Now Noah was there and he answered the callin',
                                  D
And he finished up the ark as the rain started fallin',
        D7                     G
Then he marched in the animals two by two,
       D             A7        D
And he called out as they went through: "Hey, Lord, I got your . . .

<chorus>

D                 D7             G
	Cats and rats and elephants, but Lord I'm so forlorn,
	  D                 A7 D
I just don't see no unicorns.
      D                           A7
Well, Noah looked out through the drivin' rain,
                              D
But the unicorns were hidin', playin' silly games
                        D7                  G
They were kickin' and a-splashin' while the rain was pourin',
D             A7 D
Oh them silly unicorns. You've got your . . .

<chorus>

	              D                         D7      G
Noah cried, "Close the door 'cause the rain is pourin',
	    D                         A7 D
And we just can't wait for no unicorns."
         D                         A7
Then the ark started movin' and it drifted with the tide,
                                    D
And the unicorns looked up from the rock and cried,
        D7                        G
And the water came up and sort of floated them away,
       D                       A7                   D
That's why you've never seen a unicorn to this very day.  You'll see . . .

<chorus>

        D                  A7 D
You're never gonna see no unicorns.
